Knowledge-rich Curriculum - 'Sticky Knowledge'

Our school curriculum is carefully planned and sequenced so that new knowledge and skills build on what has been taught before and towards defined end point. As such, our curriculum has been designed to include robust systems of assessment that are able to give a clear picture of pupil progress and areas for development.

At the heart of our curriculum offer is the understanding that knowledge needs to be retained in order to be valuable. We recognise that sometimes learning can be fragile and could easily be forgotten unless explicit steps are taken over time to revisit and refresh.

'Sticky Knowledge' is a term we use to describe knowledge that effectively stays with our pupils forever - in other words an alteration in long-term memory. The following curriculum maps describe the intent of the knowledge that our pupils will retain in each subject. This is also assessed regularly and becomes part of a cumulative process that can inform transitions between our year groups and to the next phase of the pupil's education.
